- W2169531630 abstract "Periodic and chaotic behavior of the van der Pol oscillator driven by a periodic impulsive force is investigated. Results show that there exists a critical strength of the external force, above and below which the return map exhibits topologically different properties. When the nonlinearity parameter k is less than kc 1.3 the structure of the parameter space is similar to that of a prototype model proposed previously. When k > kc, however, another critical strength appears. The return map is invertible for the external force weaker than the second critical strength, and otherwise noninvertible. The k ? ? limiting case in which the dynamics can be reduced to an exact one-dimensional map, constitutes a singular case. The van der Pol oscillator displays in this special case quite different properties from the prototype model, because the unstable fixed point becomes a continuous curve in this limit." @default.
