- W2170227586 abstract "To describe the quality of life after endometrial ablation utilizing bipolar radiofrequency technology, specifically the NovaSure device, in women with fibroids. Women with uterine fibroids and receiving an ablation, using the NovaSure device for treatment of menorrhagia were sent a letter and invited to particpate. Participants then completed 37 questions on a likert scale from the Uterine Fibroid Symptom-Health Related Quality of Life questionnaire (UFS-HRQL). Women having uterine fibroids, as identified on pelvic ultrasound and subsequently undergoing an endometrial ablation for the treatment of menorrhagia. Twenty-two women (51%) responded with mean fibroid size of 3.3cm, largest 5.7cm,mean age of 47, and time since treatment 21.28 months. Preliminary analysis, suggests that 75-87% of these women, experience no or very little physiological symptoms post ablation. Psychological issues range 80-86% at “not at all or a little bit”. Data for sexual function is 71-90% “not affected or only affected a little bit” post ablation. Over all the data suggests a significant increase in quality of life post ablation at 86%. There does not appear to be a correlation between fibroid size and success of the ablation. Three participants recently had hysterectomies for return of symptoms. All three said the ablation did provide some symptom relief. The data will further be analyzed into groups looking at concern, activities, energy/mood, and control, self-conscious and sexual function as it relates to menorrhagia symptoms post ablation. Endometrial ablation utilizing bipolar radio-frequency technology significantly improves the quality of life for the majority of women, who suffer from menorrhagia due to uterine fibroids." @default.
