- W2172157287 abstract "After reviewing the Francophone criticism of Butler’s model (The Canadian Geographer, The concept of a tourist area cycle of evolution), this article details how we share this criticism, sometimes relativizing it but also intensifying it, before formulating a relatively new one, based in particular on our research on the mountainous and coastal areas in France and in Spain. Put simply, we maintain that the concept of life cycle is adapted to a product but not to an area in a geographical sense, which can benefit from several different life cycles. For example, a spa town becomes a resort for winter sport. However, we consider the work of Chadefaud useful (Aux origines du tourisme dans les pays de l’Adour). Chadefaud is a French contemporary of Butler who pioneered the concept of the diachrony of the tourism product (a geographical model of tourism product life cycles)." @default.
