- W2172521766 abstract "In the last 20 years, genetics, molecular genetics and genomics have advanced tremendously and supplied numerous new technical approaches and possibilities to biological control strategies. The tools of molecular genetics and genomics are now being applied by numerous groups to questions that are directly relevant to the biological control of mosquito populations. As the world-wide effort to control disease vector insects such as mosquitoes seems to be dropping behind the innate capacity of mosquitoes to adapt to extrinsic pressures such as pesticide exposure, a need for new avenues for development of controls has become paramount. Many view molecular biology as the likely source of truly novel control strategies. It is beyond the scope of this manuscript to review the entire range of investigations utilizing molecular methodologies toward mosquito control. Instead this chapter will touch on a few very important areas of research that are currently in progress around the world. Then it will discuss some of the specific efforts that our lab has undertaken with regard to the molecular analyses of larval mosquito biology and that approach as a path to novel control strategies." @default.
