- W2174339315 abstract "Summary With a quantitative method, the sweat of 63 adult patients with peptic ulcers of the stomach and the duodenum were tested for chloride and sodium levels. The findings were compared with those in 21 patients with complaints due to other gastrointestinal disorders and with those of 134 normal controls. No cases were found with increased electrolyte secretion in any of the groups studied. These results do not provide evidence that the carrier state of mucoviscidosis in the adult can be determined from raised levels of sweat electrolytes, nor that peptic ulcer patients show altered levels of sodium and chloride. An increase of the mean sodium level was found with increased age. The sweat test appears to be of limited value in the diagnosis of mucoviscidosis in the adult ." @default.
