- W2174526163 abstract "Near Infrared Spectroscopy has been used as nondestructive and rapid method for the routine determination of cereal grain constituents (moisture, protein, fat). The quality assessment of cultivars and lines demands an analysis of large number of samples of limited quantity in short time what is difficult to achieve with standard methods therefore, the methods based on near infrared spectroscopy have been widely introduced into breeding programs. In order to determine the sedimentation value, the near infrared transmission (NIT) has been used as a new application since 2002. The aim of this study was to test the application for determination of whole grain sedimentation value on NIT instrument (Infratec 1241 Grain Analyzer). All measured sedimentation values were within calibration limits, and the values for the 215 samples from year 2002 and 647 samples from year 2003 resulted in significant correlation coefficients between NIT and Zeleny method. This research also represents the testing of calibration for sedimentation value provided by the manufacturer based on Croatian cultivars. The raw NIT data will be used for development and improvement of the calibration for measurement of sedimentation value on Infratec 1241. The instrument provides rapid, accurate and reliable data after adjustment of factory-installed calibrations and replaces the more time consuming methods used in breeding programs." @default.
