- W2175267198 abstract "Loquat (Eriobotrya japonica Lindl.) is a subtropical fruit tree native to China. Cultivation of this member of the Rosaceae family has been recorded for more than 2000 years in Chinese history, but nowadays it is cultivated commercially worldwide. Loquat fruit is delicious, with an attractive yellow color, flavor, and high economic and medicinal value. Loquat extracts contain antioxidants that exhibit bioactivities that counteract inflammation, cough, diabetes, cancer, and other health issues. Various nutritional compounds have been isolated and characterized to provide a better understanding of the biochemical mechanisms underlying these biological activities. As the identification of compounds progresses, studies investigating in vivo metabolism and bioavailability are receiving more attention. In addition, breeding and genetic studies of loquat with high accumulation of beneficial compounds may provide new insights for loquat research and industry. This chapter is focused on the nutritional composition and the pharmaceutically active compounds identified in different loquat extracts." @default.
