- W2176442833 abstract "Abstract Methods of observing magnetic domain contrast from ferromagnetic materials are reviewed. The major emphasis is placed on methods useful for the study of thin films although several of the techniques are applicable to bulk materials as well. A description is given of Bitter patterns, Faraday and Kerr microscopes, and the use of laser illumination in the latter two devices. The electron probe techniques of normal and high-voltage defocused Lorentz microscopy, small-angle electron diffraction, Foucault and phase contrast modes, mirror, impact scanning, and contour extinction microscopy are discussed. Several methods not yet realized are mentioned. Finally, the use of x-rays for the visualization of magnetic microstructure is outlined. Some additional references on the subject which have appeared since 1967 are included for the reader who requires more detailed information. Die Methoden, die in ferromagnetischen Materialien einen Bildkontrast fur verschiedene magnetische Bereiche geben, werden zusammengestellt. Das Hauptaugenmerk wurde auf Methoden zur Untersuchung dunner Filme gelegt, obwohl einige der Verfahren auch fur kompaktes Material brauchbar sind. Eingehend beschrieben werden Bitter-Streifen, Faraday und Kerr-Mikroskope und die Anwendung von Laser-Beleuchtung in den beiden letzteren Geraten. Weiter werden folgende Verfahren diskutiert: Die elektronenmikroskopischen Methoden der normalen und Hochspannungs-Lorentz-Mikroskopie mit defokussiertem Bild, Kleinwinkel-Elektronenbeugung, Foucault-und Phasenkontrast-Verfahren, Elektronon-Spiegel-Mikroskopie, Raster-Elektrononmikroskopie und die Extinctionskonturen-Mikroskopie. Einige noch nicht praktisch angewandte Effekte werden erwahnt. Schlieβlich wird die Abbildung magnetischer Mikrostrukturen durch Rontgenstrahlen aufgezeigt. Fur Leser, die ausfuhrliche Beschreibungen suchen, folgen einige zusatzliche Literaturangaben von Arbeiten, die seit 1967 uber dieses Gebiet erschienen sind. Les auteurs font la revue des methodes utilisees afin d'oberserver le contraste des domaines magnetiques dans les materiaux ferro-magnetiques. L'accent principal est porte sur les methodes propres a l'etude des couches minces quoique plusieurs d'entre elles sont aussi bien applicables aux materiaux epais. Les description des patrons de Bitter, des microscopesde Faraday et de Kerr ainsi que de l'usage de l'illumination au laser dans les deux derniers cas sont donnees. Les techniques d'analyse par microscopie electronique a haut et bas voltage utilisant le principe de defocalisation de Lorentz, la diffraction d'electrons a angle faible, les modes de contraste de Foucault et de contraste de phase, et enfin la microscopie par image, balayage etelimination de contour sont discutes; plusieurs methodes encore non realisiees sont aussi mentionnees. Finalement on donne un apercu de l'utilisation des rayons X pour visualiser les microstructures magnetiques.
