- W2176893251 abstract "Every crop plant produces a special climate within its own canopy. Epidemics of plant diseases are influenced by this special microclimate inside crop, as well as by meteorological factors, susceptibility of host, and inoculum of pathogen already present on plants. Geiger (27) defined microclimate as the climate near ground, whereas Gates (26) defined microclimate as climate near (or within) crop. We use latter definition in this publication because it best describes special climate of plant leaves inside crop. The literature reports no investigations in which all data concerning mic roclimate and host and pathogen development are recorded simultaneously both in same crop and at same location. Depending on researcher, investigations may concentrate more on pathogen, host, or mi croclimate. Therefore, we present our own data and discuss them together with data from literature. Nevertheless, we found some speculation necessary because of partly missing microclimate measurements . In main sections of this chapter, we illustrate complexity of pow dery mildew epidemics in relation to microclimate and host susceptibility. Finally, we elaborate on remaining difficulties in recording epidemics of powdery mildew in relation to microclimate factors and offer possible solu tions to these difficulties." @default.
