In this paper we examine the reward structure of Soviet collective farm chairmen for the period 1952-64. Our investigation centres upon three distinct though related questions. First, how have basic and supplementary rewards been determined, and, in particular, how has the basis of determination shifted during the period under study? Second, how large have income incentives been, and how well do leadership personnel fare vis-a-vis other members of the Soviet collective farm? Third, to what extent has the changing form and frequency of income payments altered their role as a managerial incentive? Although nonincome forms of reward (promotion, publicity, etc.) are important, we shall focus exclusively upon the reward structure as it pertains to earned managerial incomes (basic and supplemental), in both monetary and non-monetary forms." @default.
