While social entrepreneurs borrow from the tenacity of businessmen and women, the focus is not on profit-making but working for the promotion of improved quality of life of members of their target communities. Educators are challenged to perform this role because of the increasing legitimacy crisis of non-governmental organisations (NGOs). This paper examines the various dimensions of social entrepreneurship and draws out the implications of the entrepreneurial spirit for social studies education. It argues that the traditional concern of social studies as a problem solving subject challenges teacher educators in the field to equip their trainees with capacity to act as social entrepreneurs in Nigerian schools and communities.
