These enzymes contain 15 30% carbohydrates and have a molecular mass of 60 90kDa, containing 4 copper ions, one molecule carry out one electron oxidation of phenol and its related compound and reduce oxygen to water (Couto and Herrera, 2006). The use of molecular O2 as oxidant and fact that H2O is only byproduct are very attractive catalytic features rendering laccases as an excellent Green Catalyst (Riva, 2006). Laccases was 1 detected in exudates of Japanese lacquer tree Rhus vernicifera. Among fungi, Basidiomycetes and Deuteromycetes can produce laccase and White Rot Fungi have been found to be the most efficient laccase producers.
