Abstract This study investigated the mechanical interactions in implant-teeth splinting systems under different periodontal supports and number of splinted teeth with two implant systems by integrating micro-CT images, CADtechnique and finite element (FE) approaches. Two FE models with normal (NPS) and compromised (CPS) periodontal supports containing an ITI/PrimaSolo implant splinted to the first and second premolars were constructed by stacking teeth/prosthesis micro-CT and bone CT images. Non-linear contact elements were used to simulate a realistic interface fixation within the ITI implant system. The results indicated that load condition was the main factor affecting the stress developed in the implant, bone and prosthesis. Used of ITI implant increased the stress on bone but decreased stress on prosthesis relative to the PrimaSolo implant (one piece). The splinting system with CPS increased substantially on the implant stress but slightly on the bone stress when compared with the NPS. The number of splinted teeth was not a significant factor for influencing the stress values on implant, bone and prosthesis. This study concluded that oblique force significantly increased the stress values of the splinting system when compared with axial occlusal forces. The results implied that used one piece structure implant might be an appropriate selection when natural tooth is planed to connect with implant. Adding an extra tooth to support a three-unit toothimplant FPD only exploited its function when the prosthesis withstood lateral occlusal forces in CPS." @default.
