However, considering the specific characteristics of the banking industry, the role of competition on bank efficiency is still under debate. This paper aims to analyse the impact of competition on bank efficiency in the Indonesian context, especially in the post-crisis era, covering the period from 2001 to 2008. Competition is measured by Panzar and Rosse methodology, while efficiency is estimated with Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). The empirical result shows that the level of competition is found to increase efficiency; hence it supports the competition-efficiency hypothesis. In this respect, we conclude that, an increase in the competition status up to a certain level (not excessive) is considered as an important policy in the effort to improve the bank efficiency." @default.
