- W2183354920 abstract "In the recent years, the concept of developing heterotic populations is put to test in self pollinated crops like cotton. Segregating populations based on diverse pairs of genotypes can be the ideal base material required for implementing procedures like reciprocal selection for improving combining ability. Cotton genotypes which belong to robust (nine) and compact plant types (six) were selected and used for development of robust x compact cotton crosses. In this study, attempt was made to determine the diverse pairs of crosses based on the principle of predicted double cross performance as normally done in crops like maize. The predicted double cross performance of (R-101 x C-226) X (R-155 x C-16) is highest and is the best combination of genetically diverse single crosses with respect to dominant favorable alleles present in them. Single crosses R-101 x C-226 and R-155 x C-16 will be grouped into heterotic pairs or groups." @default.
