Differential pul se pol arography (DPP) a nd differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry have bee n used for the study of corrosio n rates fo r the corrosion of aluminium in acidic medium at short time interval s. Corrosion of B-265 aluminium in 60% HN03 solution with and without polyethylene glycol inhibitor at short time interval has bee n reported. The corros ion inhibition efficiency of PEG is 94% aft e r 24 h. Aluminium dissolves in acid to a considerable extent. It is, therefore, desirable to study the corrosi ve effect of acids on aluminium l . The present study reports the inhibitive action of polyethylene glycol on corrosion of aluminium in nitric acid solution. The corrosion and inhibition processes were examined at 25°C by gravimetric (simple weight loss) method and some electrochemical methods viz. galvanostatic and potentiodynamic polarization measurements. It is a known fact that the rate of corrosion is very fast initially, but it decreases with time. The above methods, prevalent in the field of corrosion rate determination, furnish only an average value for a long time interval 2 . However, looking at the sensiti vity and mlmmum detection Iimits 3 of voltammetric techniques, we have developed polarographic method i.e. direct current polarography (DCP), differential pulse polarography (DPP) and voltammetry i.e. differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry (DPASY) method for the determination of short-time corrosion and inhibition rates of 8-265 aluminium." @default.
