- W2183652118 abstract "ir Formanymedical andindustrial laser applications, aparticular irradiance distribution (beam shape) isrequired. Theintra- orextra cavity laser beamshaping-LBS methods canbe employed toalter theoutput beamcharacteristics. Inthis paper, asummary ofcurrent LBS methods aregiven. Then, anovel design. ispresented toconvert asemiGaussian beam produced byusual commercial lasers into ahigh quality flat-top beam. Furthermore, itwill be demonstrated that bychanging somesimple parameters related tocharacteristics ofoptical elements (mirrors andbeam-splitter with particular dielectric coating) usedinthis design, we caneasily improve theshape ofanyarbitrary laser beamdistribution andits related standard parameters (M2andk).Considering thesignificance oflaser beamsinmedical applications especially insurgery anddermatology andtoshowthevalidation ofthis design, theeffects of laser beamshapes intreatments ofvascular malformation ispresented here. Before clinical treatments, theMonte-Carlo method isused tomodel andsimulate theenergy deposition ina true skin anatomy fordifferent beamshapes, wavelengths andpowers. Wehaveuseda12 watts copper vapor laser (having 511nmand578nmwavelengths) with semi-Gaussian output beamdistribution. Theresults arerepeated using amultimode KTP(532 nm)ofsimilar power. Finally, acomparison between theresults oflaser treatments withandwithout LBS facilities onpatients having PortWineStains (malformation ofvascular tissues) ofvarious sizes anddepths arepresented andasignificant improvement intreatments ofPWSof different sizes using thebeamhomogenizer areseen." @default.
