- W2184256665 abstract "The genus Aspergillus has been studied for centuries due to its industrial and deterioration properties, and its effects on health. Its identification at a genus level is relatively simple, yet at a level of species it becomes more complicated, due to the similarities between both. Due to this, taxonomists currently recommend a polyphasic focus that includes, not only morphologic characteristics, but also biochemical and molecular characteristics. The aim of this investigation was to present the basic aspects concerning the polyphasic identification of these species. Due to the presence of pathogens with a mycotoxigenic potential, important direct and indirect losses of food products occur each year in the field, post-harvest and on the shelf, with consequent export restrictions, destruction of contaminated products, death of animals, and in extreme cases, of humans. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), world losses of food products due to mycotoxins are of around 1 billion tons a year (AGNS, 2010). In the mycotoxins, the most important are aflatoxins (AF), due to their toxicity and" @default.
