- W2184282539 abstract "In the globalized age when time and space has been compressed by technology, the general conception of the world is often one and the same, most poignantly described as “flat and interdependent.” Issues such as climate change, terrorism, energy security, drug trafficking and piracy are indeed non-traditional matters that demand global attention, the paradox of the new century is that there is much more diversity and disparity at a time when cooperation is pressing. Although regionalization may be considered a secondary choice in the age of globalization, as more diversity is recognized in the world, the formation of regions is real and developing quickly. Since the end of the Cold War, heavy attention has been placed on the impact of globalization on international relations and geopolitics, based on the argument of the displacement of state borders. With the phenomenon of region formation, a new concept of borders is emerging and entails significant implications for the world. This article seeks to address the development of regions and its impact on international relations and geopolitics. Specifically, the authors wish to clarify the definition of “region” and what the concept entails for understanding states and security in the new age." @default.
