- W2185043721 abstract "[2] Smoking is a commonly associated risk factor. Tracheal tumors are eminently treatable when diagnosed in the early stages. Tracheal tumors are 3 times more common in males than in females while peak incidence occurs in the fifth and sixth decades of life. Of all primary tumors of the trachea, 80% are malignant; adenoid cystic carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma are the most common, comprising two thirds of all tracheal tumors. The remainder is widely varied and includes both malignant and benign histotypes. Case review Case report 1 – A 46-year-old male presented with complaints of dry cough and an episode of haemoptysis in the past 20 days and, dyspnoea on exertion for the last 10 days, prior to admission. Dyspnoea was rapidly progressive and he was unable to lie supine at the time of admission. His past medical history showed recurrent episodes of infection which was taken care by local physician. On examination, breath sounds were not audible because of stridor. Chest radiograph showing sessile filling defect in tracheal air column.CT Chest at thoracic inlet showing a large , anterolateral mass in trachea. Hematological and biochemical profile was satisfactory and screening for distant metastasis showed metastatic lymph nodes in cervical & upper jugular group. After Initial stabilization patient was planned for Bronchoscopy. In the Bronchoscopy suite, he was initially nebulised with 4% lignocaine for 15-20 minutes. Flexible fibreoptic bronchoscopy was done after starting routine monitoring and pre-oxygenation, while the patient was breathing spontaneously.Flexible fibreoptic bronchoscopy showed a growth on posterior tracheal wall in a considerable part of the tracheal circumference with copious purulent material around and a little spontaneous bleeding. Bronchial Biopsy was taken and sent for histopathology which was further confirmed as Infiltrating Squamous cell tumour on H&E Stain . Later on patient was referred for open surgery and subsequent radiotherapy was done. Patient did well on follow up." @default.
