- W2185250595 abstract "Abstract - Products are becoming more and more complex. In order to meet high performances requirement, the products nowadays integrate multiple technologies. The mechatronic systems, which integrate several disciplines, such as mechanical, electrical and software engineering set themselves apart from the traditional products that often did not cross disciplinary boundaries. Consequently, the mechatronic systems design process phase can be considered as different from the traditional products. With the purpose of suppl ying a product with a better performance and competing successfully in international and global markets, the company should optimize the design process for mechatronic systems. However, mechatronic is an inherently multidisciplinary domain, and the mechatronic system design requires a high degree of integration. Moreover, a great number of constraints, such as limits on time and resource, information silo, and rapidly changing market, make the design much more difficult. Although some methodologies have been proposed to address these issues, some challenges related to the integration of design models and methods of mechatronic system still exist during the process of the mechatronic system design, and the goal of integration of expert knowledge has not been achieved. This paper will provide a survey of the design process models and methods for mechatronic systems design. By analyzing the characteristics of each design method, the authors propose the future research direction for mechatronic system design process.
