- W2185783917 abstract "Social entrepreneurship is a concept that is both fashionable and complex and that the scientific community has not yet identified all contours. It is a new way to take and which combines economic efficiency and social utility. It was born for a long time and appears as an alternative to cope with various challenges currently experiencing the world (Dees, 1998; Johnson, 2000; Dees & Anderson, 2006; EMES, 2008). Despite the existence of social entrepreneurship phenomenon in the four corners of the world (Roberts and Woods, 2005), its models are far from identical. The existing literature on social entrepreneurship in Europe (Borzaga & Defourny, 2001 Mendell, 2007; Mertens, 2010; Defourny Nyssens, 2011) and in the United States (Hansmann, 1987, Salamon & Anheier, 1997, Young & Salamon, 2002, Anheier, 2005 ) highlights two distinct and specific to each of the spaces models. Kerlin's research conducted in 2006, about the emergence of social entrepreneurship in six different countries has shown a correlation between the external environment factors and social entrepreneurship models. Although there are some research on the voluntary sector and the development of non-governmental organizations in Africa (Assogba 1991 Pirotte and Soufiane, 2006 Palmans, 2006), it is clear that the literature is not sufficiently addressed social entrepreneurship in general and the factors of its emergence in particular. Some works done on the traditional Burundi show that there is a set of values and practices of solidarity (Corju, 1936 Navas, 1977; Mworoha 1977; Ntabona, 1979), some of which had a resemblance to types observed today. Research done by ARCANE in 2010 on the financing of local NGOs in Burundi indicate that more than 90% of these organizations live exclusively on external funding. Burundi, like many other African countries, has been in an eventful journey through historical periods before, during and after colonization. Its political system has also undergone profound transformation from monarchical regimes, guardianship, military and authoritarian before adopting a democratic process. On socio-economic level, the country faces, for some time, a number of challenges such as economic poverty, high population, armed conflict, with disastrous consequences. We wonder if these specifics' obviously contextual factors could not explain the emergence of social entrepreneurship. The old values of solidarity and practices they have inspired the current forms of social entrepreneurship in Burundi? Flowering associations and non-profit organizations that we are currently witnessing were related to these funding opportunities? Etc.., These are some questions that we address in this article. The study will first, provide a theoretical framework from three sections: a section of social entrepreneurship concept, a section of social entrepreneurship emergence, and a section on the background of the traditional values and practices in Burundi. We will seek, then, to develop a characteristic pattern of the factors that favor the emergence of social entrepreneurship in Burundi. The model will be later verified by empirical data." @default.
