- W2186018561 abstract "Our church in Stuart, FL is located near multiple business offices. The idea to have a ‘Professional Assistants Day Luncheon’ at the church in April came from discussing outreach ideas in connection to the WLS syllabus and assignments - ideas to bring people to their church, meeting un-churched people and the things we already did. Our congregation has had a program of taking holiday food and gift baskets to each office near the church, but this was the first time for a luncheon. The event was approved by the congregation and invitations were hand delivered. The ladies selected the menu (light lunch – salad bar, other salads and a variety of desserts made by women in the church) and the women, and several men, set up the tables – with linen tablecloths and napkins, real china and flowers! Live piano music was played during the entire luncheon. Around 25 people attended the luncheon, including a dentist and his entire staff, people from an attorney’s office and a couple other offices. The dentist brought a huge basket of 50+ toothbrushes and toothpaste to donate – and the AWM director gave them to Joan Ewan, IW who works with women in prison in South America The ‘church photographer’ took a picture of each person attending the luncheon, and then the pastor delivered the pictures to each office or business. The people who attended the luncheon reported that they had a wonderful time and were very thankful for the event! Since the luncheon, Jim has had a twenty minute conversation with a Jewish business owner – which would probably never have taken place had she had not been at the luncheon. Since we began delivering the holiday gift baskets, and doing the luncheon one lady from the attorney’s office has accepted Christ, been baptized, joined the church and now attends AWM! We have done a second luncheon and this time 40 people from nearby offices attended." @default.
