- W2186087232 abstract "A simplified computer model (Arthur, et al.) to simulate thermill performance of a vapor-compression air conditioner has been modified. The NIST Standard Reference Database 23, NIST Thermodynamic Properties of Refrigerants and Refrigerant Mixtures Database (REFPROP) was incorporated in the simulation model so that the user can select mixtures of up to five components from an available set of 37 refrigerants. A heat transfer model was developed using overall heat trans5er coefficients for each heat exchanger and first law energy balance principles. The heat exchanger balance relationships for the evaporator and the condenser are coupled to the energy balance for the compressor. Refrigerant-side heat exchange is modeled as an ideal, constant pressure evaporating or condensing process. For pure refrigerants, the refrigerant evaporation and condensation temperatures are constant. When refrigerant mixtures are used the model accommodates the well-known temperature glide effects. Energy differences associated with superheating at the evaporator exit and sub-cooling and desuperheating in the condenser are small enough, compared to the phase change energy, to be assumed negligible. The air-side heat transfer for the evaporator is treated as the sum of sensible heat transfer (based on entering and leaving air temperatures) and latent heat transfer. Latent heat transfer is modeled using an assumed sensible heat ratio (SHR) and lhe calculated sensible heat transfer.
