- W2186089225 abstract "In this study, the rough rice grain damage in handling process with a horizontal screw conveyor was evaluated as a function of the grains moisture content (at three levels of 8, 11 and 14% w.b.), screw clearance (at four levels of 6, 9, 12 and 15 mm) and screw flight rotating speed (at five levels of 100, 200, 300, 400 and 500 rpm). Considering combination of the evaluated factors, 60 treatments were conducted on the basis of randomised complete block design. The rough rice grains damage was determined in terms of broken kernels (BK), hulled grains (HG), hulled-fissured grains (HFG) and fissured kernels (FK). The results revealed that as the moisture content of rough rice grains increased from 8 to 14% (w.b.), the values of broken kernels (BK), hulled grains (HG), hulled-fissured grains (HFG) and fissured kernels (FK) decreased from 0.39 to 24%, 0.54 to 0.36%, 7.95 to 4.97% and 3.37 to 1.86%, respectively. As the screw flight rotating speed increased from 100 to 500 rpm, the values of broken kernels (BK), hulled grains (HG), hulled-fissured grains (HFG) and fissured kernels (FK) increased from 0.19 to 0.45%, from 0.33 to 0.57%, from 3.58 to 9.36% and from 1.60 to 3.60%, respectively. Increasing the screw clearance cause the values of broken kernels (BK), hulled grains (HG), hulled-fissured grains (HFG) and fissured kernels (FK) to be decreased from 0.45 to 0.19%, from 0.57 to 0.32%, from 8.35 to 5.04% and from 3.22 to 1.97%, respectively. The results also indicated that the effects of moisture content, screw clearance and screw flight rotating speed on the values of broken kernels (BK), hulled grains (HG), hulled-fissured grains (HFG) and fissured kernels (FK) were all significant at the 1% probability level." @default.
