• W2186588045 abstract "Article history: Received May, 2011 Accepted June , 2011 A field experiment was carried out to determine the effect of tillage on yield of two wheat varieties sown after rice at the Agronomic Research Area, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, Pakistan during the winter season 2009-10. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with split plot arrangement having three replications with a net plot size of 23 m × 70 m. The study was two wheat varieties (V1=Sahar 2006 and V2= Shafaq-2006) in main plot and four tillage practices viz. T1= Zero Tillage (ZT) +hand drilling,T2= Reduced tillage (RT) (only one cultivation+ hand drilling), T3 = Conventional Tillage (CT) (3 cultivation followed by planking + hand drilling) and T4= Deep Tillage (DT) (one deep ploughing (chisel plough) and one cultivation followed by planking+ hand drilling) were used. in sub plot effect. Variety Sahar-2006 significantly produced more grain yield as compared to Shafaq-2006 with maximum grain yield obtained in ZT as compared to all other three tillage practices because of better germination count per unit area, higher plant height, longer spike length, more number of fertile tillers/m, number of grains spike heavier 1000grain weight and larger biological yield. In addition to this, ZT was found to be the most economical practice in wheat sown after rice. It is therefore suggested that variety Sahar-2006 should be sown with ZT practice for better yield after harvest of rice. © 2011 PSA. All rights reserved" @default.
