- W2186647718 abstract "This paper explores the role of principals' leadership in producing outstanding education outcomes in Years 7-10 in New South Wales government schools. The study sites were of two types: subject departments or faculties responsible f NB or teaching certain subjects, and teams or groupings responsible for cross-school programs. In the case of both subject departments and teams responsible for cross-school programs, leadership was found to be a key factor in the achievement of outstanding educational outcomes. Often, this leadership was exercised by the Principal, but additional key personnel included Head Teachers (heads of faculties/departments), Deputy Principals, and teachers playing leading roles in faculties and programs. In many cases, the outcomes under study were found to be significantly attributable to the appointment of a key person, although the 'seeds for success' may have been present or nascent. In other cases, antecedents for current success were attributable to a series of leaders, or groups of people, influential over time, with success building to the current level. Analysis of data has revealed certain attributes and practices of the Principals of these schools, which are explored in the paper, central to which is a focus on students and their learning." @default.
