Shewas foundtohavedeficiencies ofIgGandIgA. A mal- absorption syndrome wasestablished andshowntobe duetoWhipple's disease byjejunal biopsy. Shealso hadhypocalcaemia andosteomalacia. Weekly injec- tions ofhumangammaglobulin hadnoeffect oneither thediarrhoea orthearthralgia, although theseverity ofrespiratory infections wasreduced. Intramuscular injections ofvitamin D failed torestore theserum calcium tonormal. Continuous oraltetracycline was followed bymarkedsymptomatic improvement, dis- appearance ofthediarrhoea andsomeweight gain. Steatorrhoea however persisted andthejejunal histo- logy showedonlyslight improvement. Theserum calcium returned tonormalpossibly asa result of correction ofamagnesium deficiency.
