- W2187756399 abstract "Analytical andexperimental results relating theinteraction offunctional residual capacity (FRC)andventilation (V)onocclusion pressure inconscious manarepresented. Ananalytical modelwasde- veloped relating theairway pressure measured 100msafter occlusion (P100) withFRCandVjust before occlusion. Byrelating thechange in diaphragmatic force withtimeduring breathing tothat during occlusion, itwasfoundthatP100andIFRCcould belinearly related. Inorder totest this model, 16normal adult subjects withdifferent FRCvalues (2.0to5.61)werestudied during periods ofincreasing ventilation. Subjects increased Vbyrebreathing amixture of7%CO2and93%02. Neither AP100/APC02 norAV/APC02 could becorrelated toFRC since thedifferences inmotoneuron activity inresponse tohypercapnia wereprobably greater thanthevariations inFRC. Linear regression analysis onall16subjects demonstrated asignificant effect ofFRCon therelationships P100versus V,andAP1o0/APClO2 versus AV/APC;2. Theseexperimental findings wereinclose agreement withanalytical predictions andsuggest thatsubjects withlarger FRCvalues havea greater ventilation andventilatory response forthesameocclusion pressure andocclusion pressure response, respectively." @default.
