- W2188839410 abstract "Youth suicide is a national public health problem with devastating consequences. In an attempt to address it, schools have been viewed as appropriate venues for focused efforts at youth suicide prevention. School personnel have both legal and ethical responsibilities to prevent youth suicide whenever possible, a situation that is most likely to occur if evidence–based “best practices” in prevention and intervention are implemented. There are differing levels of responsibility within these three domains, with each succeeding level having a corresponding – and more stringent – modification in requirements. The purpose of this article is to describe these three levels, proceeding from the lowest level of responsibility (i.e., legal requirements) to the highest (i.e., best practices). Implications of these different levels of responsibility for school personnel engaged in youth suicide prevention efforts are discussed." @default.
