- W2188919937 abstract "In order to estimate the production of greenhouse gases (GHG) in the foliage and fruits of Calliandra cruegeri, Guazuma ulmifolia, Vachellia macracantha, Senna robiniifolia, Samanea saman, Lonchocarpus sp., Fagara sp., Senna espectabilis, Mangifera indica and Oyedaea verbesinoides, from a tropical dry forest of Venezuela, these species were evaluated through the in vitro gas production technique; the production of volatile fatty acids (VFA) was quantified and the GHGs were estimated. The substrata that recorded the highest production (P<0,05) of methane (CH 4 ) and carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) corresponded to the fruits of S. saman (4,0 and 8,5), Fagara sp. (3,2 and 6,9) and G. ulmifolia (2,9 and 7,2) and the foliage of S. saman (3,6 and 8,2), S. robiniifolia (4,0 and 9,9) and V. macracantha (2,8 and 5,8). The lowest quantity (P<0,05) of CH 4 and CO 2 was produced by the fruits of S. espectabilis (2,3 and 5,0) and Lonchocarpus sp. (2,3 and 5,9), and the foliage of Fagara sp. (1,5 and 3,7), G. ulmifolia (1,4 and 3,5), C. cruegeri (1,6 and 4,0), M. indica (1,7 and 4,1), O. verbesinoides (1,8 and 4,2) and Cassia sp. (1,9 and 4,6). The GHG production and incubation time were correlated to methane production (r = 0,458; P<0,05). It is concluded that, among all species, S. saman recorded the highest values (P<0,05) of GHG production in the fruits and foliage. Likewise, between three and eight hours of incubation of the substrata, the GHG production rate was high." @default.
