- W2189289314 abstract "Abstract A population-based cross-sectional study wasconducted in Pelotas, southern Brazil, focusingon the determinants and patterns of bicycle useas a mode of commuting by workers. Accidentsduring commuting and use of safety equipmentwere also studied. The sample included 1,705workers ( ≥ 15 years of age) living in the urbanarea of Pelotas and using various modes oftransportation during commuting. Crude andadjusted analyses were performed using Poissonregression, taking the design effect into account.Prevalence of bicycle use was 17.2% (95%CI:15.4%-19.0%). Male workers and those with lowschooling and low income presented higherprevalence. Less than 1.0% of the bicycles fea-tured the safety equipment required by theBrazilian Traffic Code, and 15.0% did not evenhave brakes. Nearly 6.0% of workers who com-muted by bicycle had suffered accidents result-ing in injuries during the previous 12 months. The authors conclude that bicycling workers area priority for interventions aimed at reducingtraffic accidents.Traffic Accidents;Workers; Bicycling" @default.
