- W2189355855 abstract "OMPUTER techniques for the evaluation of frequency response characteristics in arbitrary, lumped, linear networks may be divided into two broad categories. First, the computer may be programmed to generate network functions as a ratio of polynomials in the complex frequency variable from which response characteristics may be obtained quite simply. The rational functions may be generated by means of topological formulas,[’] or, more elegantly, from the state equations of a netw~rk.[~],[~] Alternatively, the loop or nodal equilibrium equations can be formulated and solved at each frequency sequentially to obtain the requisite output data. This may be termed a “point-by-point” approach in contrast to the more direct rational function evaluation techniques. At first glance, rational function techniques appear more attractive, particularly from the viewpoint of minimizing computation time. These methods, however, tend to be less accurate than point-by-point techniques because of the peculiar sensitivity of frequency characteristics to errors in the polynomial coefficients and, correspondingly, are less desirable for many applications. In addition, topological techniques rely on exhaustive tree search procedures which are slow and taxing to the fast access memory capability of available computers. Within the class of point-by-point methods there exist a variety of potential solution mechanisms for generating magnitude and phase characteristics. The simplest and most" @default.
