• W2189369528 abstract "Tilia americana L. var. mexicana (Schltdl.) Hardin (Tiliaceae) (T. americana) is widely used by people for its therapeutic effects on the central nervous system. Although pharmacological effects of this plant species have been reported in experimental models of nociception and depressant activities associated to the presence of flavonoids, other Tilia extracts have been reported with antitumoral properties. However, it is still yet unknown if the Tilia americana L. var. mexicana has the antitumoral properties and what the mechanism of action of the species is. By these reasons, our aim was to determine if ethyl acetate extract of T. americana var. mexicana is able to induce cytotoxicity effects in different cancer cell lines and whether it is able to function as a trap for reactive species in the oxidative states. Ethyl acetate extracts obtained from the T. americana var. mexicana inflorescences or leaves were prepared by maceration at room temperature and were characterized by HPLC to determine the principal compounds that are present in this extract. The solvent-free crude extracts were tested by: 1) a growth inhibitory assay was used to determine the cytotoxicity activity and 2) spectrophotometric techniques to determine their antioxidant capacity against the reactive species radical-anion superoxide (O 2 U− ), hydroxyl radical (HO U ), hypochlorous acid (HOCl), hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) and oxygen singlet ( 1 O 2 ). Our results demonstrate that inflorescences of T. americana var. mexicana induce significant antitumor activity for K-562 leukemia cell line and inflorescences and leaves possess antioxidant activity." @default.
