- W2191703122 abstract "Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the concept of shallow acceptors in diluted magnetic semiconductors (DMS). The best known diluted magnetic semiconductors (DMS) that can be made p-type are Cd 1- x Mn x Te and Hg 1– x Mn x Te. Both are A II 1− x Mn x B VI systems of the zinc-blende cubic structure, and both have wide conduction and valence bands. However, Cd 1– x ,Mn x Te is a wide-gap semiconductor, while Hg 1– x Mn x Te is a narrow-gap semiconductor (for x > 0.075) or a zero-gap semiconductor (for x > 0.075). The chapter considers shallow acceptors and ignores more complex systems such as excitons bound to acceptors. In a narrow- or zero-gap DMS, the direct effect of the external magnetic field on the spin splitting and the orbital motion of the valence electron are neglected as the low effective masses yield high cyclotron frequencies and high g -factors." @default.
