• W2201620361 abstract "This is an investigation into the quality of water, air and sediments in the region of the Sapucaia Stream, a tributary of the Sinos River located in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, south Brazil. The concentrations of AI, Cu, Mn and Zn in the atmosphere of this area were measured, as well as their correlation with bioaccumulation in water, sediments, plants and fishes. The degree of pollution was also characterized through the study of the oxidative damage in fish. The results show that effects vary with the peculiarities of each site studied along the stream. The Sapucaia Stream is a tributary of the Sinos River and is 25 km long. Located between latitudes 29 45' and 30 00' south and longitudes 51' 15' and 51' 00' west, it crosses an area of 129.57 sq. km within the metropolitan region of the city of Porto Alegre. In its upper course, the Sapucaia Stream goes through an area of low population density with agricultural lands and prevalence of small farming activities of relatively low environmental impact. In its intermediate course, however, the stream crosses urban zones with a high population density, a large number of factories (cement, metals, refinery, and chemicals), and urban solid waste dumpsites. Also in this area, major highways RS 11 8 and BR 116 traverse the stream, with an intense traffic of vehicles. This area is characterized by a high environmental impact. In its final course in the vicinities of the Sinos River, the Sapucaia Stream traverses areas of rice plantations." @default.
