Leaf N and P content and shoot:root ratio also were positively correlated with root conductivity. Differences in soil water depletion and plant water relations of 2 of the rootstocks during drought and recovery cycles apparently were related to their root conductivity. The ranking of root conductivities of these seedlings generally reflects the vigor that these rootstocks impart to trees in the field. Thus, the capability of root systems to conduct water and mineral elements is an important factor in plant growth and physiological activity." @default.
