- W2206324405 abstract "Background: Hyperplasia of lymphoid tissue in duodenum has well established endoscopic and histological criteria, their presence in children is a little common endoscopic finding with uncertain clinical significance. Objective: To describe the clinical-pathological findings in children with nodular duodenum and to report if there is any association with the causes commonly associated in children, such as immunity disorders, food allergy or Giardia lamblia infestation. Patients and methods: Patients with image showing nodular duodenal endoscopy studies, done at Children’s Hospital of Mexico during a period of five years, were selected; biopsies from esophagus, stomach, duodenum were obtained, as well as rapid test for H. pylori detection, aspired from the second portion of duodenum for detection of Giardia lamblia and 10 mL of blood for detection of H. pylori and IgA quantification. Results: From the 20 cases studied, none showed serum nor by immunofluorescence altered IgA quantification. Giardia lamblia was not found either, and only one patient had lactose intolerance. Nine cases had follicular gastritis associated to H. pylori. Conclusions: This study shows a clear association between infection due to H. pylori and nodular duodenum in children. However, its presence makes to rule out other causes such as immunity disorders, food allergy and Giardia lamblia infestation. Clinical impact of this disease is little clear and represents a field for its future long-term research." @default.
