Allen appeared in print in late spring 1999. 1 have used in an undergraduate real estate principles class at Louisiana State University. I have heard Professor Charles Floyd make the statement, The best way to learn about your field is to write a principles book. This edition demonstrates the authors' ability to remain up-to-date in their field. I highly recommend this well-polished, readable real estate principles textbook for the typical population of undergraduate students. textbook contains six 'Parts' after the Introduction that walk the reader through 1. Real Estate Market Analysis, 11. Real Estate's Legal Framework, 111. Real Estate Services, IV. Real Estate Transactions, V. Real Estate Investment Analysis, and VI. Real Estate Development. emphasis of the book is decision making for users of real estate resources. material can be taught in a straightforward, sequential manner. However, the division of chapters makes it adaptable to many formats. In addition to the text, instructors receive two Instructor's Disks. Disk I contains the files titled Outline, Study Answers, Answer Key. Midterm and Final in Microsoft Word 97 format. Outline file contains chapter outlines that can be used as overheads. Study Answers has the answers to all 250 Study Exercises at the end of the nineteen chapters. Disk 2 has nineteen files containing multiple choice questions and true/false statements for each chapter. These files contain 556 multiple choice questions and 302 true/false statements. If the instructor plans to cover the text in sequence, Midterm contains a 65-question multiple-choice test covering Chapters I9. Likewise, Final contains a 116-question multiple-choice test covering all chapters. Answer Key contains the answers to all 886 end-of-chapter multiple choice and true/false questions, and the Midterm and Final. Real Estate Todays are a most pleasant feature. For instructors desiring stories to supplement the current topic, Real Estate Todays contain not only the story, but the supporting (referenced) information in a concise inset (usually one-half to one page long) in the chapter. Real Estate Todays are classified as Profiles, Legal Highlights, Close-ups or Case Studies. experience of the authors is evident in this collection. A casual glance reveals that this edition increases the number of these features from forty to fifty. However, ten features were not simply added to those in the fifth edition. An instructor possessing both the fifth and sixth editions has a collection of sixty-one Real Estate Todays. With so many examples, I ask undergraduate students to individually propose, provide a one-page handout of, and a five-minute presentation of their own Real Estate Today as part of their grade. This edition of is timely and up-to-date. One small item that is representative of its overall freshness is the picture that appears on the title page for Chapter 8: Real Estate Brokerage. In the previous edition, this page contained a picture of a section of newspaper classifieds advertising condos, houses, etc. for sale. This edition contains an Internet Explorer view of Realtor.com with the caption Online search tools' are changing the way real estate brokerage firms operate. This edition contains a few new sections. Appendix B: NAR's Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice has been added. It also contains increased coverage of two increasingly popular topics: portfolio management and real estate investment trusts (REITs). In addition, the cash flow schedules reflect the recent changes in capital gains laws.
