- W2210825770 abstract "This study examined perception of persons with disabilities in the physical activity context from ecological perspectives to discover how the persons and environment influenced each other by these perceptions. Twelve participants with disabilities (4cerebral palsy, 2 muscular dystrophy, 4 wheelchair, and 2 spina bifida, age 12-16, participated in this survey. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistical techniques and factor analysis to identify patterns within the findings and to assess relationships among key variables. A reliability analysis was performed on each of five dimensions. Cronbach’s alpha coefficients were ranging from 0.72 to 0.84. Results from interview survey that investigated constrained variables to the recreational sport context provide empirical evidence of the relative importance of various criterion variables (environmental constraints such as social/geographic isolation, skill, interaction, and knowledge, and cost). The findings showed how persons with disabilities themselves believe their recreational sport and leisure to be compromised, as opposed to how researchers and practitioners may assume constraints to affect recreational sport opportunity for persons with disabilities. The study also provides support for the conceptualization of constrained recreational sport context as an “affordance” from individuals’ direct perceptions, and generates a new proposition about the perceived experiences and constraints profoundly affect the positive and negative affordances from the physical activity context (environment). Findings from this study also support that interplay characterized by prior preparation of knowledge and skills, frequent contacts, cooperative efforts, lower cost rate, and minimal accommodations appeared most likely to enhance participation and contribute positively to self-concept of people with disabilities in the physical activity context." @default.
