- W2213881497 abstract "Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the magnetic excitations in the classic magnetic systems: transition metals and lanthanide metals. Some alloys and compounds from the 3d and 4f systems is discussed and also considered the actinide and low-dimensional systems. The dynamics of the ferromagnetic elements iron and nickel remains a source of controversy, as seen, and experiments continue in this field. Modulated magnetic structures represent an expanding area where the existing experiments await a satisfactory theory. The studies of the magnetic rare-earth elements contain many gaps. For example, due to technical problems, almost nothing is known of the dynamics of cerium, samarium, europium, and thulium. In the actinides, time will reveal whether UPd 3 is unique in exhibiting well-defined crystal-field-like excitations. Measurements on plutonium compounds such as PuSb are only beginning and will doubtless continue to reveal interesting new phenomena. Combined progress in the technology of neutron sources, neutron instrumentation, sample environment facilities, and the production of well-characterized single crystals of both classic and novel materials ensure an exciting future for those studying magnetic excitations." @default.
