- W2214703055 abstract "After finishing the work “On the Absorption Spectra of Complex Ions”/1/, Y. Tanabe and myself were looking for clear-cut experimental evidence to justify our energy level diagrams for dN (N=2, 3, •••, 8) electron configurations in a cubic field. As is well known, the diagram predicts the co-existence of gaslike narrow lines and broad bands in the absorption spectra of transition-metal ions in cubic environments. We thought that detailed studies of the gaslike Tines, could justify the diagram as they could provide us with much information such as fine structure, Zeeman effects, and so on. We noticed that the gaslike lines were first reported in 1893 by Lapraik/2/ and that many detailed spectroscopic studies had been done on the narrow lines arising from the t 32g 4A2g → t 32g 2Eg, 2T1g, and 2T2g transitions of Cr3+ ions in complex salts/3/ and oxide crystals such as spinel, alexandrite, ruby etc../4/KeywordsPulse Magnetic FieldLight FlashZeeman SplittingElectric Dipole TransitionMagnetic Field ParallelThese keywords were added by machine and not by the authors.
