Patients and Methods: A retrospective study of 17 patients was performed. The cases were 15 males (88.2%) and 2 females (11.8%), with an average age of 32.7 years and a mean follow-up of 56.4 months. The cases were 1 fracture of the atlas (5.9%), 12 fractures of the odontoid process (70.5%), 2 fractures of the pedicles of the axis (11.8%) and 2 fractures of the atlas and axis (11.8%). There were 2 cases with associate radicular compromise (11.8%). Results: The mean time to bone healing was 12 weeks in atlas fracture, 9.8 weeks in odontoid fractures, 10 weeks in pedicles of the axis fractures and 16 weeks in atlas and axis fractures. Wound partial dehicence was presented in 1 case. The cases with radicular compromise were recovered completely. Conclusion: The treatment of the upper cervical spine fractures is generally conservative and the surgery is reserved for the unstable lesions and the healing complications." @default.
