- W2218133021 abstract "In this paper a new theory of explain the rural-urban migration phenomenon is advanced. In it and factors are presented as interacting and mutually supporting causes of rural-urban migration and the electronic revolution of the 20th century is ascribed an important catalytic role. The main demand-pull element in rural-urban migration is of course the relatively high urban wage rate but others include lights (a term which embraces all the psychological factors attracting peasants to a city including the psychic gain from living in the metropolis) and the availability of social services like school hospital public transportation and sanitation in the city Iyoha (1973) Meister (1970) and Todaro (1969). On the other hand the main supply-push factors and rural poverty as reflected in extremely low levels of income per head the low technical level of peasant agriculture concentration of agricultural land in the hands of a few land-lords and a consequent low land-labour ratio for most of the peasantry the rigis and oppressive rural socio-economic structure and the existence of unjust land tenure system Meister (1970). The last link in this theory of rural-urban migration is the technological-electronic revolution in the 20th century. Specifically it is postulated that the electronic revolution in this century was the catalyst that set off the chain reaction which interacting with the pull and push factors produced the massive rural-urban migration in developing countries. The main impact of the technological-electronic revolution has worked through the advance means of communications including the proliferation of mass media and rapid means of transportation.
