- W2218243335 abstract "The chapter discusses the satellitism and related phenomena in plant and animal viruses. The type of obligate association between two viruses, satellite virus, and its helper called tobacco necrosis virus (TNV), is no longer unique and came to be known as satellitism. Both viruses occur in the roots of otherwise seemingly normal plants, and both are transmitted between roots by the aid of zoospores of the fungus Olpidium brassicae. TNV may occur in infected roots alone, but the satellite virus (SV) has never been found without TNV. Each of the two viruses exists in several strains that are serologically related but differ in their degree of serological relationship to one another. When mixtures containing different ratios of TNV and SV were inoculated to bean or tobacco leaves, three interference phenomena were noted from the changes in (1) the size of the necrotic lesions, (2) the number of lesions, and (3) the amount of the viruses produced in the inoculated leaves. There is no direct evidence that different kinds of particles of tobacco necrosis virus can interact and determine whether infection ends in the production of stable rather than unstable virus, but experience with tobacco rattle virus suggests that there may be an association. The chapter discusses the association between animal viruses including rous sarcoma virus (RSV), and helper moloney sarcoma virus and adenosatellite virus, and other small particles in association with adenovirus and adenoviws-SV4O hybrid virus." @default.
