- W2219052111 abstract "Only some years ago, the term “Geek” was used to describe misfits that live in their own world surrounded by technology and science. Today, due to the omnipresence of technology and also because of famous TV shows, a sense of social acceptance emerged, translating the formerly disparaging denotation into something cool and desirable. While the term is nowadays colloquially accepted, research still lacks a solid explanation why technologies reach a certain state of desirability within selected user groups. This paper presents research in progress. The concept of a “Geek Factor” as a methodological approach to match technologies with human personality is introduced. Harmonizing classified technologies with the user's personal preferences allows to increase the chance of desirability and attention for individualized services, e. g., at the point of sale in the retail business. As part of the complex endeavor a preliminary scoring system is outlined to measure the Geek Factor on a personality as well as on a technology level. As work in progress this paper intends to provide insights into a new approach for creating positive customer experiences and inspire researchers and practitioners for investigating the potential of geeks acting as brand ambassadors for technology-enabled services and products. Finally, starting points for future research are outlined." @default.
