- W2219353047 abstract "The economic impact of mega-sporting events is often quite substantial thanks to the synergy between sports and media players. Without large media coverage, international sporting events would entail considerable organizational costs without generating corresponding effects. In France, where public authorities greatly support sport events, the debatable profitability of public investments calls for examination. For this article, we studied the economic impact of a women's professional tennis tournament (the GDF-Suez Tennis Open in Seine-et-Marne) on the scale of local authorities which supported the event. This study based on the injection-outflow method is supported by a survey on the spectators (n = 646), organizers and partner companies. It determines the economic impact on both areas and links this to the subsidies granted by the local authorities in question. This two-geographical scale analysis contributes to the reflection on the methodology of impact studies, in particular regarding the question of how to select a study territory." @default.
