- W2219434915 abstract "This essay has two purposes. First is to investigate the recent trends and theories in leadership studies. Second is to take U.S. President Barack H. Obama’s leadership as an example of new generation’s leadership and to conduct biblical reflections on it. The concept of leadership has changed in modern business firms. In the business world it begins to draw a line between a leader and a manager. In this context, it settles the concept of leadership as an empowering behavior by sharing a vision in which followers realize it themselves not by compulsory means. In this essay four theories (trait, situation, mixed and transactional leadership theory) in understanding leadership were shortly reviewed. So it is better to define leadership as a series of organizational activities rather than some special traits of an individual. President Obama is surely a new leadership icon of our times. Some of his speeches were selected and interpreted in light of Biblical perspectives according to the four key words which appeared frequently during his election campaign: insight, change, hope, and inclusiveness. Five ideas can be presented as the emerging leadership concepts for the modern church leaders. Many young people want to resemble Obama. Despite the cynicism, his popularity does not seem to cool down. That is because his authenticity, his honesty, and his magnanimity made people inspiring." @default.
