- W2220161606 abstract "uenee Ostrinia furnacalis G (Lepidoptera: Crambidae) is an importantpolyphagus pest. Many studies to develop pest control techniques require a lot ofinsects. Therefore, a simple, cheap, and suitable rearing technique of O. furnacalis isan urgent need. This research aimed to determine whether the existing artificial dietis suitable for mass rearing of O. furnacalis. The criteria used to justify the quality ofdiet and mass rearing procedure were based on the life cycle and fitness of O.furnacalis as well as the cost. The experiment was consisted of two treatments:artificial diet and the cob as the control. Each diet was tested into two rearingmethods: individual (2 gr/larva in each vial) and group (16 larvae/jar). The data wasanalyzed using independent t-test by R-analysis software. The results showed thatlife cycle and fitness of O. furnacalis reared with artificial diet at 21°C-30°C and RH42,5%-76% was as good as those fed with the cob and the cost to produce an adult ofO. furnacalis using artificial diet was cheaper than that of the cob. Therefore, theexisting artificial diet and rearing procedure were considered suitable and qualifiedfor O. furnacalis." @default.
