A “Proposal for a Cardiovascular Health Promotion Plan in the French-speaking community” has arisen from this process 1 . It was drawn up between 2007 and 2009 during consultation meetings based on people’s living environments, and puts forward priority strategies and well-defined actions across the various subject areas. This plan was also designed for institutional and political managers responsible for promoting healthcare in the French-speaking community and for other levels of authority. The plan puts forward a specific schedule aimed at healthcare professionals working one-on-one with patients when initially dealing with a cardiovascular risk factor: general practitioners, cardiologists, nurses, pharmacists, psychologists, dieticians, physiotherapists, tobaccologists. These professionals proposed a schedule based around specific objectives, each of which are split into different strategies. This schedule was then submitted for opinions from other professionals and from an association specialising in therapeutic education. The specific objectives are targeted at patients and the strategies at health professionals. One of the priority objectives aims at strengthening the patient’s personal resources. This can be realized through bolstering the skills of healthcare professionals and through patient self-reliance, standardising messages given to them, integration and the recognition of one-on-one health promotion activities, the implementation of a professional network and strengthened multidisciplinary approaches.
